At Islamic Worldview School (IWS), education goes beyond the classroom. We believe that every activity is an opportunity to nurture good character, strengthen Islamic values, and prepare children to become responsible Muslims.

One of our weekly programmes is Spick & Span, a dedicated session where students work together to clean and care for their learning environment.

Cleanliness is Part of Our Faith

 

Islam places great emphasis on cleanliness. A clean environment reflects discipline, gratitude, and respect for the blessings Allah has given us. Through Spick & Span, students are reminded that keeping their surroundings clean is not merely a chore—it is an act of responsibility and good character.

By taking ownership of their classroom, students learn that every individual has a role in creating a welcoming and pleasant environment for others.

A teacher once shared a beautiful reminder:

"Sometimes, when we clean our surroundings, Allah also cleans our hearts."

When children learn to care for the spaces around them with sincerity, they also cultivate humility, gratitude, and a sense of inner peace. Cleaning is not just about removing dust—it is about nurturing the heart.

Learning Through Action

During each Spick & Span session, students participate in simple age-appropriate tasks such as:

• Organising books and learning materials

• Wiping tables and chairs

• Sweeping the classroom floor

• Emptying rubbish bins

• Arranging prayer items neatly

• Ensuring shared spaces are tidy before leaving

These practical activities teach children that caring for their environment is everyone's responsibility.

Developing Essential Life Skills

Spick & Span is designed to help students develop valuable life skills that will benefit them both at home and in the future.

Through the programme, students learn to:

• Take responsibility for shared spaces

• Work cooperatively with their classmates

• Develop self-discipline and good habits

• Show respect for school property

• Appreciate the importance of cleanliness and organisation

• Build leadership by serving others

These habits extend beyond school and encourage children to contribute positively within their families and communities.

Working Together as One Ummah

​

One of the most meaningful aspects of Spick & Span is teamwork.

Students quickly discover that a clean classroom is achieved not by one person, but through everyone's contribution. By helping one another, encouraging friends, and completing tasks together, they experience the Islamic values of cooperation (ta'awun), mutual respect, and service.

 

Bringing Good Habits Home

We encourage parents to reinforce these habits at home by involving children in simple daily responsibilities such as:

• Making their bed

• Keeping their study area tidy

• Organising their shoes and bags

• Clearing the dining table after meals

• Helping with simple household chores

When children practise responsibility both at school and at home, these actions gradually become lifelong habits.

More Than Cleaning

 

At IWS, Spick & Span is not simply about having a tidy classroom.

It is about raising young Muslims who understand that responsibility, discipline, teamwork, and care for others are all part of living according to Islamic values.

 

By instilling these habits from a young age, we hope our students grow into individuals who serve their families, communities, and society with sincerity, excellence, and a strong sense of amanah.
